I'm thrilled to bring History of Surfing online, and so honored to again be working with these two guys—same fellas who designed and engineered Encyclopedia of Surfing. Ryan Mahar, in the shades, gave History its look. The only directive I gave him was to make it look like the Encyclopedia’s big sister. He knocked it out of the park, the city, the county. As expected. Ryan does the most with the least. Always works clean and sharp. Always comes up with something fresh, yet his design creations never seem to age. I’ve been looking at EOS for five years now and still love it, and it’s gonna be the same for HOS.

Barry Sevig, the skinny one, put the pieces together. Ride the internet for 10 minutes, come back, and tell me—are EOS and HOS not the smoothest functioning sites in all of surf? I think we are! And let me add, here on the back end it’s like driving a Jag. This shitty wooden chair I found on the sidewalk 12 years ago feels like a leather bucket set when I’m speed-shifting through my websites. That’s on Barry. He fine-tunes EOS monthly, and will do the same for HOS.

History of Surfing and Encyclopedia of Surfing live on the shoulders of these two gents. I’ve been around the media block now for going on 35 years, and worked with hundreds of people, and if we’re picking teams, Barry and Ryan are my first two choices. In fact, without either one, I’ll take my ball and go home.
