 isn't a "beach movie," like the Frankie-and-Annette 

 was made by Columbia Pictures, not AIP, who were purveyors of not just beach movies, but 

 and other low-budget semi-grindhouse teen flicks. 

 cost less than $500,000, and was shot in two weeks. 

 cost $2.5 million and was in production for months. It's got a story arc and multiple plot lines. Conflicts are introduced and resolved. Character growth takes place.

. It's a middling romantic comedy. But a middling romantic comedy with some red-hot 1963 surf footage shot on the best cameras on earth. Miki Dora, Greg Noll, Mike Hynson, Butch van Artsdalen—sure, they look good in the 16mm surf movies of the period. But damn, they look even better in 35mm.

I got to work yesterday. Gathered up all the best 

 surf clips. Replaced the Jan and Dean title song with my favorite Sonics number. Ended up with a pretty punk little two-minute clip! Honestly, has Dora ever looked better?
