hodad
Bygone derogatory phrase for an unwelcome surfer of any kind, usually a beginner, poser, or hot-rodder; sometimes used in reference to nonsurfers in general. The word's origins are unknown. Although the expression went out of use in the mid-'60s, "hodad" is one of very few words identified in the Oxford English Dictionary as "surfing slang."
