Southern boogie California surfboard accessory designer and manufacturer. Pope met surfer/designer Tom Morey at the University of Southern California in the mid-'50s, and in 1965 they formed the Morey-Pope company in Ventura. 

One of their first products was the Trisect, a travel-ready three-piece surfboard that Pope designed and engineered. More board models followed, including the Snub, the Peck Penetrator, the Blue Machine, and the Camel surfboards. Other Morey-Pope products included Slipcheck, an aerosol traction spray; Lock Set, an anti-theft device for surfboards; and, the W.A.V.E. Set interchangeable fin system. 

Morey-Pope earned more than $1 million in gross revenue in 1968, but the partnership fell apart in 1970. Two years later, Pope de-signed and marketed a molded epoxy-finished line of boards called Hollow W.A.V.E.—a noble failure that more or less drove him from the surfing business in 1974. 

Just over 20 years later, after Pope had founded, developed, and sold a Ventura tennis club, he came back to the idea of a multipiece surfboard, and in 1996 introduced the Pope Bisect Travelboard, a reworked version of the Trisect (which itself had been a noble failure, having sold less than 50 units in the mid-'60s). The new Bisect cost about $1,200, and found a niche with older, wealthier, convenience-minded longboarders.

- Morey-Pope formed in ‘65 (or ‘66? not clear on this)

- MP produced the Snub (with downrails in the nose) in ‘65 (LB 6-7-94), which Peck fine-tuned into the Peck Penetrator in ‘66, and the Blue Machine in ‘67, co-designed by Bob Cooper, with it’s asymmetrically set fin.

- also invented and/or marketed Slipcheck, a spray-can traction (something), W.A.V.E SET, an interchangable fin system, an anti-theft device named Lock Set.

- WAVE Corp became owner of MP (LB 6-7) in late ‘67 or early ‘68 (LB 6-7)

- in ‘68, MP did over $1 million in gross revenue (LB 6-7)

- MP partnership came to end in 1970, for reasons M and P don’t talk about (LB 6-7); Karl would operate MP label alone, while Morey moved to Hawaii.

- WAVE/MP fell into receivership in ‘75 (LB 6-7)

- Pope produced Hollow Wave board in ‘72, a strong, light strong molded board made from “honeycomb” process, constructed from Phenolic-coated paper called Normex

- Pope at some point opened the Ojai Valley Racquet Club, big success, sold it in ‘95. (LB 6-7)

- Pope left surfboard manufacturing business in ‘74 (Bisect website)

- Pope Bisect Travelboard (Bisect website); around $1,200; in ‘96
