In the fall of 1999, Southern California surfers Shayne McIntyre and Jon McClure, along with Newport Beach photographer Mike Moir and Australian surfer Marc Lesoki, introduced surfing to Russia. The group visited the largely uninhabited Sakhalin Island at the bottom of the Russian-held Kuril Islands, between the Sea of Okhotsk and the North Pacific Ocean, not far from the northern tip of Japan. ...
