Wry surf artist, board-builder, and surfwear manufacturer from Venice Beach, California. Schroff was born (1954) and raised in Newport Beach, began surfing at age 12, and shaping boards at 18. 

From 1981 to 1986 he made surfboards under the Peter Schroff Designs label; from 1983 to 1987 he produced the edgy and fleetingly popular Schroff Clothing, which he called an "anti-surf" line of surfwear, in sartorial opposition to what he called "the brown corduroy walk shorts/flowered print T-shirt syndrome." 

Schroff's best-known art pieces are highly stylized surfboards—some devious, others seductive, most of them humorous—including Pink Whale (1988), a lustrous, pastel-colored, 15-foot-long "artboard" that includes a '50s-era clock, radio, and television, a pair of lamps, a Schlitz beer tap, and chrome exhaust pipes. Pink Whale was shown at Surf Trip, a well-reviewed 2000 surf art exhibit at San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
