Well-rounded and well-traveled surf photographer from Biarritz, France; best known for his 1990s helicopter-angle shots of big-wave surfing in Hawaii. 

Cazenave was born (1954) in Lille, France, spent his first five years in the African nation of Chad, then moved with his family to Biarritz. He began surfing in 1968, and competed in the European Surfing Championships in 1971 and 1972. He took up photography in 1975, and was first published two years later in a French sailboarding magazine. 

Cazenave's crisp, neatly composed shots have been used internationally since the late 1970s in surf magazines (including 

), as well as mainstream magazines (including 

), and a small number of French-produced surfing books. 

In 1994, Cazenave went up in a helicopter to take the first aerial photographs of Jaws, a big-wave break on Maui where a small group of surfers using the newly developed motorized tow-in method began setting new height and performance standards for big-wave surfing.
