Gurrey, A.R. Jr. (1874 – c.1927)

Mostly forgotten early-20th century photographer and surfer; creator The Surf Riders of Hawaii, a handmade, self-published booklet that came out in 1914, and is regarded by some as the first book of surfing photographs.  Not much is known about Gurrey's early life. He was born (1874) in Kansas, and took an engineering degree from the University of California, Berkeley, before moving with his family to Hawaii, probably around 1899.
