Maki, Clarence (1924 – 2010)

Easygoing surfer and photographer from Honolulu, Hawaii; best known for capturing many of the classic surf images of Waikiki and Makaha in the 1950s and early '60s. Maki was born (1924) in Kilauea, Kauai, raised in Honolulu, and began surfing in 1944.

In 1958, he was a finalist at the Makaha International Surfing Championships. In 1959, 1960, and 1961, Maki served as the director for the Makaha contest. He represented Hawaii at the 1960 Peru International event.
