Gracious Brazilian regularfoot pro surfer from São Paulo, Brazil; world-ranked #11 in 1994. Olivença was born (1968) and raised in São Paulo, began riding waves at age 11, and developed into a rangy, limber, unpolished, but explosive surfer.

Brazilian national pro champion in 1991 and 1993, Olivença was a 10-year minor league pro veteran in 1994 when he finally earned a slot on the world tour, during which the 27-year-old lifted his performance to finish the season rated 11th and earned rookie-of-the-year honors.

Olivença didn't finish higher than 16th over the next three seasons, and retired at the end of the 1997 tour. The smiling and devoutly Catholic Olivença was never interviewed by either the American or Australian surf media, and with the exception of a few short appearances in Brazilian-made videos, was all but ignored by '90s surf moviemakers and videographers. "If quietly spreading goodwill was rewarded on tour," the usually acerbic surf journalist Derek Hynd wrote in 1997, "he would be world champ."
