Crouched and splay-limbed surfing posture, stable but ugly, often used by beginners. High-performance surfers of the 1960s also liked to throw the term at big-wave surfers (never to their faces): "the stinkbug," US champion Corky Carroll wrote, "was made popular by certain legendary surfers who had more nerve than style." By strict definition, the stinkbug stance should also include a raised butt, in imitation of the eponymous cloud-spraying insect.
