1976 VENTURA SKATEBOARD CHAMPIONSHIPS

"SKATEBOARD MEET ON TAP," Ventura County Star, Feb 13, 1975

The second annual Ventura Skateboarding Championships will be conducted Saturday and Sunday in Grant Park overlooking Downtown Ventura, beginning at 9 AM Saturday and 8 AM Sunday. Competition is scheduled to run all day on both days with finals on Sunday.

Some 230 participants are expected to compete for titles in freestyle, slalom, and downhill speed. Stale championships are being offered in the former two categories.

Visitors are welcome, but no one may park in Grant Park. Shuttle buses will be provided from the parking garage adjacent to the Holiday Inn, from the City Hall parking lot on Poli Street, and from the intersection of Kalorama and Summit streets.

Two Venturans, Desiree Von Essen and Don Andre, won individual first places at the second annual State Skateboard Championships held at Ventura's Grant Park on Saturday and Sunday

Von Essen, a world-class performer, won the women’s 18 and over freestyle event and was also second in the slalom. Andre, also of world-class caliber, was the winner of the men's downhill speed event.
