Six-piece country-rock band from Laguna Beach, California, formed in 1970 and best known for their Granite Records soundtrack album for MacGillivray-Freeman's 1972 surf film 

. Honk members included Beth Fitchet (vocals, guitar), Steve Wood (piano, vocals), Tris Imboden (drums), Will Brady (bass, vocals), Richard Stekol (guitar, vocals), Craig Buhler (sax, clarinet, flute), and Don Whaley (bass, vocals). All contributed to the songwriting, although Wood and Stekol did most of the work for the 

Surf movie maker Greg MacGillivray, also from Laguna, saw the band in local bars and clubs, and arranged to have them contribute to the as-yet-untitled movie he and partner Jim Freeman were making. "They'd record a song in Hollywood, and I'd edit the film to match the intensity and rhythm of the music," MacGillivray later recalled. While Beach Boys songs were also used on the 

 soundtrack, for licencing reasons only Honk songs were included on the movie's official LP. It was the band's first record.

Honk's music covered a lot of ground, stylistically, from first-generation electronica ("Creation") to R&B ("Made my Statement"), but country-rock was the main focus, and by 1974 surfers around the world were humming "High in the Middle." In Hawaii, the slow-building "Pipeline Sequence" went to the top of the charts. As one reviewer noted, the 

 LP "wasn't the most coherent album, but it managed to latch onto that early-1970s Southern California vibe that people longingly dream about."

Honk released two more albums, and toured with Linda Ronstadt, Santana, and Jackson Browne, but never again returned to their early level of popularity; the group broke up in 1975, reformed in 1983, and was still performing as of 2016.

Honk drummer Tris Imboden went on to play with Chicago and the Kenny Loggins Band, and did session work with Neil Diamond and Roger Daltrey.
