Honor roll for American East Coast surfers, and surf-related writers, photographers, boardmakers, industrialists, and organizers, formed in 1994 by California big-wave rider and board manufacturer Greg Noll, with help from New Jersey contest official Cecil Lear.

Originally called Greg Noll's East Coast Surf Legends Hall of Fame, the first set of 23 inductees, according to 

 magazine, were picked by "an ad hoc committee of both East and West coast surfers, industry heads and organization presidents." The debut induction ceremony was held on January 13, 1996, at the Surf Expo trade show in Orlando, Florida. (Noll's name was dropped from the title in 1998; in 2003 it was changed again to East Coast Surfing Hall of Fame.)

Up until the mid-'00s, ECSHOF members were chosen by those already selected. According to 1998 inductee Bill Yerkes, there are no official criteria for induction: "We just know." Later, organizers developed a formalized set of nomination criteria which included items like "sphere of influence," "competition record," and "contribution to the East Coast surfing community," among others. Nominees must be over 40. New inductees are announced during a ceremony every two years at the Surf Expo trade show in Orlando. East Coast Surfing Hall of Fame signet rings, in gold or silver, can be purchased by inductees.

In 2016, original ECSHOF president Cecil Lear, after 20 years, turned the group's executive duties over to longtime New Jersey surfer and restauranteur Gary Germain.

In 2003, the East Coast Surfing Hall of Fame merged with the Florida Surf Museum, and both were housed at the Ron Jon Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach; in 2007 the two groups split, and as of 2020, the ECSHOF has no physical home.
