Peter Drouyn (1970)

North Shore, 1970

Q: What is your favorite spot? A: A place I don’t want people to know about. It starts with “B” and ends with “Heads.”

“Drink at the Bar: an Interview with Peter Drouyn,” was recorded in late 1970, and ran in the June 1971 issue of Surfing, when Drouyn was 22. This version has been slightly edited.

How do you feel about being paid for this interview?

I wouldn’t do it unless I got paid. I’m a professional so to speak, and I’m working my guts out trying to make a living from surfing. I’ll just leave it at that.

Why did you come to the Islands?

The Duke and the Smirnoff contests.

Then it was for money?
